HelpDomainsOwnership Changes

Ownership Changes

  • What is a change ownership request?

A change ownership request is when one or more domains are moved from one Dynadot account to another Dynadot account. This process is offered to all Dynadot customers for free. The current owner can initiate what is known as a domain push of the domain. If you want to move multiple domains at once, (known as a bulk change ownership request), you would also need to be the current owner. Bulk change ownership requests can only be done through domain push. We do not support bulk domain pulls. NOTE: A change ownership request is not a domain transfer. If you need to move a domain to us from another domain registrar, please visit the domain transfer page to initiate a transfer order. Custom DNS settings do not carry over when a domain is moved between Dynadot accounts, unless it is being moved to a sub-account and the option "Keep current DNS settings" is checked. New accounts are unable to push domains at this time.

  • How can I do a bulk change ownership request?

A bulk change ownership request allows the owner to move multiple domains to another Dynadot account in the same order. This process can only be done by the current owner of the domain. Before starting a bulk change ownership domain push: The owner will need to make sure their domains are not about to expire. After the bulk domain push order is submitted, the recipient must accept the move before the domains expire. Otherwise, any domains that have expired will need to be renewed before they can be moved. Domains that did not expire will still be moved into the recipient's account, but the order will likely take longer to complete due to the expiration issues on the other domains. The owner will also need to unlock all of the domains to be pushed. The recipient will need to provide the owner with their Push Username, which is different from their username. If they haven't already, the recipient will need to create a free Dynadot account first. Once the owner has confirmed the domains are not about to expire, are unlocked, and they have the recipient's Push Username, the owner can submit a bulk change ownership domain push by following these steps: Sign in to your Dynadot account. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down. Check the box next to the domain names you want to move. Click on the "Action" button, and select "Change Account". In the "Domain Change Account (Push)" pop-up window, enter the recipient's Push username in the "Recipient Push Username" section. If you are pushing your domain to a sub-account and wish to retain the domain's current DNS settings, you can check the box next to "Keep current DNS settings". Click on the "Push Domains" button. Click on your shopping cart and follow the "Checkout" buttons to submit your change ownership order. An email will be sent to the recipient of the domains asking them to confirm the move. Once the recipient accepts the move, the domains will automatically be pushed from your account to the recipient's account. NOTE: Custom DNS settings do not carry over when a domain is moved between Dynadot accounts, unless it is being moved to a sub-account and the option "Keep current DNS settings" is checked.

  • How do I initiate a change ownership request if I am the current owner (domain push)?

There are a few things you need to do before you start your change ownership request (domain push) order. Ask the recipient of the domain(s) to create a free Dynadot account if they do not already have one. Once the recipient has created a Dynadot account, ask for their Push Username. (NOTE: The Push Username name is not necessarily the same as your Dynadot username). This is needed to move or "push" the domain into their account. Make sure your domain is not about to expire. After you submit the domain push order, the recipient must accept the move before the domain expires. Otherwise, the domain must be renewed before it can be moved. Before you start the domain push, you will need to unlock the domain(s) you want to push. Once you've unlocked your domain(s) and have the recipient's push username, you can start the change ownership (domain push) order using the following steps: Sign in to your Dynadot account. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down. Check the box next to the domain name(s) you want to move. Select "Change Account" from the "Action" drop-down menu. An email will be sent to the recipient of the domain(s) asking them to confirm the move. Once the recipient accepts the move, the domain(s) will automatically be pushed from your account to the recipient's account. To do a bulk domain push, simply check off all the domains you would like to push and then follow the same steps above. Please note that we'll be sending the Forum Name and Organization / Name to the recipient account.New accounts cannot push a domain into a new account.NOTE: Custom DNS settings do not carry over when a domain is moved between Dynadot accounts, unless it is being moved to a sub-account and the option "Keep current DNS settings" is checked.
